Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after March of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on court had led some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an better service.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He defended 4 initial chances in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
